Salisbury, MD – This year’s West Wicomico Heritage Bike Tour is back as part of the new West Wicomico Heritage Day. The Road Historians Scavenger Hunt and activities at Pemberton Historical Park will also be part of the event on Saturday, Sept. 10. Participants in the bike tour, which takes off from Pemberton Historical Park, can choose from 32-, 50-, and 62-mile routes that wind through western Wicomico County. The event lasts from 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m., with show & go from 7-8:30 a.m.
Register by Aug. 26 to guarantee an event shirt. The early registration fees are $35 for adults, $20 for children ages 8-18 and free for children 7 and under (no shirt included). After Aug. 12, the rates for participants 8 and older increase by $5.
Participants must wear helmets, and in addition to the shirt, they will each receive a map and cue sheet. Rest areas will also be available, along with SAG, or Support and Gear, service.
For the Road Historians Scavenger Hunt, teams of five will travel by car to different historical sites, completing tasks and challenges. Teams should arrive to Pemberton Historical Park between 11 a.m. and noon to pick up a road map and clues.
The registration fee is $5 for a group of five until Sept. 2, or $10 on-site.
There will also be a Pemberton Hall Open House from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and History Trail and plantation guided tours each at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. These events are free to the public.
The day is presented in partnership with the Whitehaven Heritage Association and the Pemberton Hall Foundation. Proceeds go directly toward historical preservation of Pemberton Historical Park and the Whitehaven Schoolhouse as well as numerous Environmental Education Programs offered to Wicomico County children and families.
